The Certificate in Phlebotomy
At present the Certificate in Phlebotomy Programme is temporality suspended while accreditation is been transferred from Dublin City University to a new 3rd level institution. A revised schedule for the Certificate in Phlebotomy Programmes in 2010 will be published once the accrediation process has been completed.
A Phlebotomist is a Medical Professional who is skilled in the practice of blood collection. The Certificate in Phlebotomy is a National Phlebotomy Training Programme available Phlebotomists and other healthcare professionals working in the Irish Health Service. The Certificate in Phlebotomy is valid for 3 years, to renew their Certificate each phlebotomist must complete a minimum of 20 hours Continuous Professional Development during this period.
CiPh - Conversion Programme
The certificate in Phlebotomy - Conversion Programme is available to all Phlebotomists with at least 1 years full time experience. It comprises of the following modules -
Pre-learning module - 6 weeks (distance learning)
Module 1 - 1 week didactic
Module 2 - 1 week practical skills
Module 3 - 2 weeks of clinical placement
For phlebotomists employed by HSE funded facilities the course fees have been funded centrally. Please note that the sending facility is responsible for any additional expenses incurred by the students. If you are not employed by a HSE funded facility, you or your employer will be liable for the course fees.
CiPh - New Entrant Programme
The Certificate in Phlebotomy New Entrant Programme is a 21 week training programme that prepares individuals for a career as a Professional Phlebotomist in the Irish healthcare system. The entry requirements for the New Entrant Programme are a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent and relevant experience in healthcare.
Candidates meeting the above requirements will be called for interview during the 1st week of February 2010. Successful candidates will require proof of Hep B immunity and Rubella status before commencing the programme. The programme comprises of the following modules -
Distance Learning Module - Ten weeks
Module 1 didactic - Three weeks
Module 2 practical skills - Two weeks
Module 3 clinical placement - Six weeks
